Kieffer Pear Scionwood

Kieffer is a classic American pear introduced in the late 1800s by Peter Kieffer of Philadelphia. Believed to be a cross between a European pear and an Asian sand pear, it’s prized for toughness, productivity, and adaptability.

Fruit is large with golden-yellow skin often blushed with red. The flesh is firm and coarse-textured, mildly sweet, and best suited for canning, preserves, baking, and fresh eating when fully ripened. Kieffer pears store well and hold their shape when cooked.

Trees are vigorous, highly productive, and notably resistant to fire blight compared to many European pear varieties. Ripens mid- to late-season (October in the Midwest).
