Liberty Apple Scionwood
Liberty Apple Scionwood
Liberty was released in 1978 by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva as a disease-resistant variety bred for modern growers. Developed from a complex cross that includes Macoun and Purdue breeding lines, Liberty is best known for its strong resistance to apple scab and good overall field tolerance.
Fruit is medium-sized with deep red skin and crisp, juicy flesh. Flavor is sprightly and well-balanced—sweet with a bright tart finish—excellent for fresh eating, cider, and cooking. Ripens mid-season (late September in the Midwest).
Trees are vigorous, productive, and tend to bear annually, making Liberty a favorite for low-spray orchards and organic systems.
