Red Spy is a red sport of the classic Northern Spy, offering the same outstanding flavor and storage quality with improved red coloration. Originally discovered in the northeastern United States, it has become a favorite among growers who appreciate the rich character of Northern Spy with stronger visual appeal.
Fruit is large with deep red skin and firm, crisp flesh. Flavor is bold and well-balanced—bright acidity with rich sweetness—making it excellent for fresh eating, pies, and long storage. Ripens late season (October in the Midwest) and improves in flavor after a few weeks in storage.
