State Fair Apple Scionwood
State Fair Apple Scionwood
State Fair was introduced by the University of Minnesota in 1977, bred for cold hardiness and early-season performance. A cross of Mantet × Oriole, it’s well-suited to northern climates.
Fruit is medium-sized with bright red striping over a yellow background. The flesh is crisp, juicy, and mildly tart with a refreshing, balanced flavor—excellent for fresh eating and sauce. Ripens early (late August in the Midwest), just ahead of many mid-season varieties.
Trees are hardy, moderately vigorous, and productive, making them a reliable choice for short growing seasons.
